I am really a newbie in regards to Servoy. I recently downloaded the “Learning Edition”. I am kind of confuse with the registering steps. I’ve registered the “Developer”, but don’t know how to do the same with the “Client”. I followed the instructions received by email, and tried to open the server administration screen, but can’t see any “License” click - just the icon to start the “Client”.
My second question: I have been developing with FileMaker 6 tru 8 in the last 3 years. Now I’ve got a new project that I would like to do on Servoy. Lets say this project would required 3 months of development in FMP, but don’t have any clue about how much time if I do it on Servoy taking into account that I’ll be learning from the very bottom. Does any of you have any tip or idea to share about how to proceed to estimate this project?. Or do you recomend I wait until I learn more about Servoy - maybe converting one of my application in FMP - before committing with a new project on Servoy?
Unless things have changed, Developer allows you to open up to three clients for testing purposes.
With regard to your solution it really depends on its requirements. If it is pretty straight forward then you will probably be able to learn what you need from the sample solutions, documentation, online tutorials, this list, etc. If your needs are complex, then it may be worth hiring an experieced Servoy developer to help you out.
Concerning your second question I would say that you just start with the new project (even when you didn’t get the job) to see how much time it takes you to do the basic things. You will soon see what your learning curve is and be able to do a better estimate after that first week.
You should take into account however that you have more ‘control’ over Servoy solutions due to all types of (for you ) new events that you have to learn. I tend to say, when you use Servoy like you would use the other tool you menion, development time should be equal. When you start using the additional stuff Servoy gives you your develoment time can still be somewhat the same when you have enough experience with Servoy. Once solutions are more complex development time can even be less…
Ok. Thanks for your insights regarding my second question.
Now, what about my first question?.
This is not a “demo” version - it’s just the “Learning Edition” version posted a few weeks ago. After a received the license, I also received a mail describing the steps to register the “developer” and the “client”. I made to register the “developer” - but can’t complete those steps for the “client”.
Maybe this is a stupid question, as this version it’s like just for learning. I really don’t know - just want to be sure.
Well, that’s not a stupid question but a question about how to read the manuals.
If you are talking about your client registration key you have to start the server to be able to enter that!
If you are talking about starting a client, you can do that with developer or server running by going to the url you set up for that (localhost or ip address at port 8080 by default).

Welcome Gustavo,
If you have any knowledge of JavaScript or any other programming language you’ll get up to speed faster. You’ll have less to learn.
Knowledge of a Macro Language like FMP’s gives you little help. Still JS is pretty easy to learn just keep a JavaScript Core guide close by. You can get one at:

In the learning edition all you have to register is the developer. The Learning Edition is exactly the same product as Servoy Developer, the only difference is it’s software license: as soon as you start to build commercial software with it you need to buy a full developer license.
And also thanks Jaleman. That’s what I assumed, but get cofused with the following message received about registering:
(textual copy from email(:
Your registration codes and instructions
Download and install Servoy trial from our website
(When you register the trial version using the included registration key(s) it will become a FULL version.)
Registering Servoy Developer
a) Open Servoy Developer, go to the preferences screen and enter your registration codes there.
Example entry License = (Company name= Smith, Licenses=2, License code=123)
ComputerA, Enter >> Company name= Smith, Licenses=2, License code=123
ComputerB, Enter >> Company name= Smith, Licenses=2, License code=123
Registering Servoy Clients
a) Open the server administration screen and click on the “License” link to get into the registration screen.
b) How do I open the server administration screen?
Open your browser and enter this URL: http://“servername”:“port”/servoy-admin/
where “servername” and “port” are your variables.
(end of message copied).
I got confused with step 3 - I can’t get to see the “License” click.
The ‘help’ text above the codes is a generic one, a customer could potentially be buying both types of licenses. The license lines right below the help text indicate what type of keys have been purchased. I will see if we can improve the text in case of a learning edition to make this clearer.
