Merging data on import

Hi All

I’d like to use the import functionality of Servoy Developer to merge some import data with already existing data (in a table). I therefor need to set the match column(s) but can’t find where to do that in the import dialog windows. Where can I set the match colum? Or am I missing something?

Hi Robert,
you can’t do it!
I wish you could, but what you have to do is create a ‘temp’ table with the columns you want to update and the PK field, import your data into that and then do a SQL UPDATE statement to update the live data with the temp data on the PK :( (you can use the Servoy ‘Copy Table’ option in Dataproviders dialog…)
[That is one area where a certain other product is better than Servoy…]
I’m looking forward to the day they implement it, but Servoy always says that imports should be done using back-end tools, unless it is for small sets of data.

I was not sure any more what the state of this functionality is, as I have not used it for quite a while. It’s accepatble to use backend tools for many tasks (that’s what we do as well) but sometimes it would be very handy for one (or two .-) time task to have the merge possibility on importing data. Let’s hope it arrives one time :-) Did you already make a feature request for it?
