Say what you want about FM (and you’re likely right ), but there were a few features that I miss.
One of them is the control drag in layout (designer) mode. By dragging while holding the control key down, you could create a copy and put it where you want it at the same time.
At first, I thought, ‘Oh, well’, but I’ve since begun to appreciate just what a huge time saver that was.
It’s still not as important as other feature requests, but if it’s an easy change, it’d sure be nice.

I agree
Speaking of selecting objects in designer mode with the mouse. It would be nice, when I click an object and drag it, that it would move on the first try. In other words. I have a field object that I need to move across the form. So, I click and hold the mouse button on the object. Without releasing, drag the field to its new position. Then release the mouse button. Done.
Currently, Servoy requires you to click the button and release the mouse button. Then click, again, and hold, drag the object to new position. Then release.
This requires twice as many clicks to get the same job done. And we all would love to cut our development time down.
yes but click once and move does make a selection rectangle
So that you can capture more then one element to move.
for copy why not use copy/paste? Just as fast..
Copy/paste really isn’t as fast, although it’s certainly good enough to use.
FM also has another advantage, in that the shift key will constrain movement to straight lines, so by using a combination of the two, you can quickly make several copies of the same size, font, etc., all nicely lined up on the layout.
Yet another, a control-drag field creation prompts a field choice, just as if you’d dragged the field tool from the toolbar, so that you can choose a different field, albeit with the same characteristics as the one you’re copying.
Still minor, but if it’s not too difficult, these types of enhancements would be helpful for quicker form creation.

Yes you are correct about this but this feature (selection rectangle) could be kept but only happens when no object is clicked on. In other words, I click on no object (background) or a locked object and drag to create the selection rect. Once I have encompassed the objects I want then they are selected or highlighted. We could also have the quick click and drag of objects with the way I mentioned above.
So both ways could coexist.
If need be an extra key comb could be added to allow the user, at their own times, to select objects the current way.
jcompagner:
hmm
that behaviour i wouldn’t like personally
I start many times on a element when starting a selection, if suddenly that thing start to move …
Ok, I understand. I like the other way, so I will just have to learn to exist in the other. Hey, I may learn to like it.
I, too, can (and have) learned to work with it the way it is.
Having used quite a number of other programs, though, I’d have to agree that the way selection and moving works in Servoy is unique, and hard to get used to.
