It seems that not every font installed in the system can be used in smart client form elements (fields, labels and so on), at least not in MacOS X 10.8.1.
I wanted to use some fonts from the Frutiger Next family, a beautifully designed family that “inspired” the Microsoft Segoe UI. Besides the usual regular, bold, italic declinations it comes in a variety of flavours such as RegularCond, Heavy, Light and so on. All fonts are in the Fonts folder in the Library folder, available to all users of the computer. Much to my surprise, every time I try to use a non-standard type (e.g. not normal, bold, italic), the chosen font always reverts to the nearest one of the three main styles irrespective of my selection, and this applies both if I set the font property in Eclipse or if I change the style sheet. And this true both with OpenType and TrueType fonts and also when using other more common font families that have a variety of variations, such as Helvetica Neue.
Is this the expected behaviour or am I missing something?
