Optimum Server Configuration

Is there any information available on preferred server configurations for Servoy?Windows vs Mac OS X? if Windows, which versions perform best?Preferred type & number of processors? Preferred Ram? Preferred Harddrive configuration? Raid vs Standard Drive setup?

Any problems with serving with Mac OS X vs Windows Machine?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Carmen

Windows or mac doesn’t matter. I recommend using the OS you are most familiar with and even better the os the person managing the server is familiar with. In terms of RAM, disk etc: depends on the size of your app, the way it was built, the speed requirements your customer has etc. As a rule of thumb: the better the hardware the faster the app will run. For a standard app a dual-core box with 2 gb of ram will easily serve 100-200 users and still be very quick. If you need +30,000 concurrent users IBM zSeries (formerly mainframe) are a good place to start.

And for those administrators who can work without having a need for graphical interfaces, I think the better choice is a raw Unix (or Linux) OS !?
Most stable, most secure and quicker since no ressources are wasted on the GUI.

In this matter, what will be the ‘dream machine’ for the best Servoy application server??

I think that’s the machine that suites your needs ;)

The dream machine is definitely a ZSeries from IBM. Pricing starts at around $200,000. Besides purchasing it will also require significant training to use. If that’s out of budget range you can consider Linux, Solaris, Mac OS X which will set you back about 99% less.

Honestly today there is not very much difference in stability and performance on the server-side so choosing an OS that the IT department using it is familiar with is the best way to go.
