PDF Forms sample files

Hi all,

Several of us have tried to get the PDF Forms demo file that ships with 3.0 to work. We’ve not had any luck.

Has anyone gotten this to work?

Thanks,

Rich Coulombre

Hi Rich,

What platform, Adobe Reader version, Java version? What happens when you attempt to use the PDF sample solution? Have you tried it with Webclient?

I just took a quick look at it using Windows XP Professional, Adobe Reader 7 and Java Runtime 5.0 update 5.

From within Webclient I can open the forms and edit the data. However, the submit button is missing. It should be in the upper left corner of the form. We manually add the submit button and two other required fields on each form for our PDF forms that work with Webclient.

If my memory serves me right, the submit button and the other two required fields are automatically added to the PDF form if you are using the full version of Acrobat, but not if you are using the free Adobe Reader. That is why we add them to all our PDF forms. That way the PDF forms also work with the free Adobe Reader. We place them in exactly the same position that the plugin places them for those who have the full version of Acrobat. That way when the plugin adds them to the form for those who have the full version of Acrobat, they overlap ours, so that the user does not see two of them.

Hi Dean,

Thanks for your reply. You are correct… the Submit button has been removed. However in the earlier version Servoy would add the Submit button automatically if it were not present. I assumed it would work the same way.

We have a customer that uses lots of forms (perhaps >1000) and it would be a hassle for them to add the submit button syntax to each of these, or to each new form that comes along. Since they are interested in using webdirect to publish these forms, we cannot assume that users will have the full version of Adobe Acrobat. If I’m not mistaken the earlier version of the PDF stuff only required Adobe Acrobat reader.

So I’m wondering if this a bug or a feature? Is there some logic behind the change? Can the automatic Submit button be put back? Or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks,

Rich

I do not think this is a change. To my knowledge the button and two required fields have only been automatically added to forms if the user has the full Acrobat installed, otherwise they have had to be added to the form once manually. Then submits will work with the form using the free Adobe Reader.

Adding the required submit button and the two fields is extremely easy. They can just be copied from one form and pasted to other forms. Nothing else is required. This would be done with the full version of Acrobat. Thereafter the form will work with the free Adobe Reader. Nothing else is required.
