Question about lookup fields and find/search

I am using calculated fields.
Both stored and unstored.
Most of the time I put . values in them.

When i do a find/search i can enter search criteria in both types.

For stored calculated fields this makes sense, and it works.

For unstored calculated fields this does not make sense.
(and the search criteria are not evaluated of course).

I can set enabled to false for those unstored calc fields , but this makes them almost unreadable.

In Oracle forms there is an attribute called : “can field be searched”
and there i set it to “no” for these kind of fields.

Any suggestions ?

Typical newbie issue. (Still thinking in Oracle Forms)

I should not have used calculated field for releated values !

If you want to show related values you should not do this via a
calculated value, but simply put a field in your form and in the
“specify field” popup choose the relation and the field.

Then the field can be searched.

It is even more straight forward then in Oracle Forms.

:) Nice stuff huh, that Servoy…

I agree.

I have been working on Oracle Forms the last 2 weeks and there where
several things that I do in Forms where I asked myself " Could this also be done in Servoy ?". The last 2 days I have been testing these things in Servoy.

So far the answer has been YES in all cases and some times it is even
more straight forward/easy to implement.

Since the Forms product is there for about 25 years now, there are probably things that are not available in Servoy, but then I gues there will be a workaround and/or else the Servoyans will add relevant functionality to the product.

I can not comment on this in depth because I don’t know anything about Oracle Forms. But consider what you say in the above and compare the time that Oracle Forms is around and the time Servoy is on the market.
And then see what Servoy archieved in that short period of time.
I don’t think it is easy for Servoy to keep up the pace of the last year.
But I am sure that Servoy is a great alternative to many many other RAD tools on the market.

Well put, totally agree !!!
