I have downloaded the trial version and have created several forms, tables, relationships, etc… The next thing I wanted to accomplish was creating a report with subsummary parts. I can see where to add the break field in the part definition, but it is grayed out and I cannot create a break field. Is this possibly a trial version limitation, or am I not doing things in the correct order.

NO, the only limitation is, that Servoy only works for one hour!

If you want to use, a subsummary, why do you want to break that part?

Just place a subsummary and place an aggregate in it.
sort on that aggregate and goto print-preview.
voila!
