Server ??? WTH?

Our server was plugging along today when suddenly Java started taking almost 100% of the CPU power and stopped everything.

I killed servoy and java. Restarted the computer. Brought back up Servoy… the process said all was running, but we couldn’t connect.

Java seemed housed. Reinstalled servoy… nothing… same thing.

Any ideas what might have happened to us?

Hi Chico,

What OS and Servoy version are you talking about here.
Do you see anything in the server log that is in the application_server dir (or if you use < 4.0 in the Servoy dir).
If you are using Sybase do you see anything in the Sybase log ? Also is Sybase running ?

can you get to the admin pages?
If so you could try to make a stackdump so that we can see what is so busy.

Hi… sorry for the delay on this.

After 6 hours, we got our server back up. It boiled down to our server.properties file being corrupt somehow.

So, everytime we reinstalled or tried on another server instance, it kept failing because we were dropping in the old properties file.

Lessons learned;

  1. Use a backup copy of the properties file.
  2. Try this first before trying other installations and other server instances
  3. As we all should know by now, it’s usually something very simple. :)

I did make a copy of the log and could get that do you as we’d like to know if there’s a way to prevent the original spike in java which caused our lock up in the first place.

Thanks.
