Servoy 4.1 AWS AMI - Stop / Start

Been playing with the AMI that Sean Devlin created and demo’d recently, getting it up and running (its on Win 2003 Server) was as simple as he suggested it would.

However I’m still struggling with a few concepts of Servoy on an AMI. This AMI has an installer script to place Servoy Server and SQLAnywhere on the AMI and format the attached drive. Servoy Server then runs fine on that set-up.

During testing we’ll be stopping and starting instances every few days but keeping the storage intact.

If the AMI is terminated and a new instance is started - the Server is not available - even after the storage is attached. Unfortunately if the script is run it will format the attached drive too - losing anything stored there from the running of the original instance and looking at the bat files it appears to only expand the Servoy directories on the formatted drive anyway?

Q. How do I reconnect the Servoy Server short cut to the server itself? I guess there is some pathing or something missing from a fresh AMI???

Appreciate any feedback on running Servoy on an AMI.

Hi Kahuna,

You should only run the .bat file ONCE to install Servoy on the volume.
If you are attaching the volume again to a running instance, then you should just be able to run the start_servoy.bat (The services will fail to startup the first time an instance is booted because the volume is not yet attached)

Hi Sean - thanks for that feedback.

I’ve noticed that after adding the volume to a new running instance - the server bat and db bat don’t start the system. I eventually had to re-run the install bat on the volume to get the system working. This was just a test of the ease of cloud set-up so there was no issue re-formatting the volume again, but obviously that wont be the case in working system in future.

Did I miss something Sean?

BTW - would it be possible to have this same AMI available in Euro zone of Amazon? I know this is not really official Servoy stuff but I suspect more and more of Servoy developers will want to test this out soon!

What about a Servoy 5.0 Server AMI? You guys are the experts - would be great to move the whole cloud deployment on and I think your AMI’s will be a driver for that.

Thanks for building this - and best of luck with it.

Hi Kahuna,

the server bat and db bat don’t start the system

Just to be clear, you are using the single bat file on the desktop that starts both services correct?
If either the Servoy or Sybase service failed to start, then you should get an error on the console.
Please provide that error.

You should be able to launch an instance in any availability zone. Any volume that you attach must be in the same zone.

Yes when 5.0 stable is released, this will be something for us to take on. Of course ANYBODY is free to make a public AMI - any takers?
