Servoy and SAP

Can Servoy connect to SAP tables, as it does with mySQL or Postgres?
If not, is it possible to control SAP data with Servoy in another way?

That question should be asked to SAP! Have you ever tried to get read and write access to SAP tables? Basically, SAP runs on a standard database (mainly Oracle) that Servoy can connect to. But I doubt that an SAP administrator will ever let you even think about that.

We are working on it…

A customer runs SAP, we are developing a small “satelite” application it in Servoy. It’s just a matter of good understanding and agreements…

Interesting. It would be great to hear more about that approach. Are you using BAPI in this or how does it work?

Here is the most used approach to connect to ERP systems (including SAP, Navision, Great Plains, Oracle, Baan): for reading data in many cases it makes sense to directly connect to the tables of the underlying database. If your ERP system is not to old it is generally based on some flavour of SQL and accessible through Servoy. To update/insert data the best approach is to use the vendors API as you want it to go through the business rules/validations of the vendors product. In some cases the vendor has a good API in other cases there are third party products that form the API.

The application will be a complex pricing module, the results are in a separate table, wich will be linked to the SAP offers.

This week we have a meeting about connections and security.

I will tell you more later.

Hi Stef

Did you make any progress on this? We have an enquiry that will require extracting data from a SAP accounts system for detailed reporting.

Before re-inventing the wheel it would be good to hear of your experiences.
