structure concept

Hi all

I am looking for ideas here :-)

I have a customer who makes signs
Some of these signs are standard go left, right, up, down type signs which contain an arrow in the direction of travel plus some text next to it
They currently have a font on their machines which is used in their present solution and which allows them to put into a standard text field an ’ arrow’ character via the keyboard and “Go Left” or whatever text to describe the activity. This serves very simply to visually represent what the sign looks like to the manufacturing department
I want to get away from the whole font thing and wonder if anyone has had to do something similar for anybody or has any ideas for how to use simple icons like this but allow the attachment of text to them to produce this effect ?

Cheers
Harry

Well you should be able to produce this effect visually by placing a label on top of the icon.
You can have tables which hold the icons, the text and the pairs (icon + text). Not sure if this is what you were asking…

Hi Andrei

It’s a little bit ‘chicken and egg’ :)

I’m really just asking for ideas to muse on as someone out there may have already had to do this and come up with a way of achieving it in HTML or using a basic image library with the standard arrow icons in or some drag-n-drop bean that has been sourced

So I really am just looking for ammunition and experiences to consider what may be best option(s) to explore

Thanks for the feedback

Harry

Hi Harry,

I would go for a specialized Html Bean (but then as you might now, I love cofee ;-))
I had a case a little bit similar to yours for a prototype I made lately where we wanted to demonstrated how a user could enter data with a few shortcuts in a Html editable field, to input tables and manage them correctly (not really an option with the HtmlArea really) as well as inserting variables (that were to be parsed afterwards, enclosed in between $ signs: $var$), so I build it like this:

The bean is this whole part:

You can see that I have made some special “shortcut” buttons.
These could insert predefined and associated text at the insertion point in the html…
