Suggested Interface Enhancement

I knocked this picture out to propose a change in the user interface. In the properties area, navigation between forms could be enhanced with a Forms Browser. While the Windows menu is fine, it isn’t as fast as a forms browser.

Being able to move between forms, with a single click, makes the design process MUCH faster. I have many forms where tab panels use other forms and spending a lot of time using the Windows menu is slower than the suggested addition to the interface. The additional fact that the Windows menu sorts forms alphabetically means that moving from a form starting with “A” to a form starting with “Z”, when you have a number of forms, can be painful!

An enhanced version of this feature would allow you to drag the position of forms shown in the Form Browser area. This makes form navigation EVEN FASTER since you typically only work on a few forms at at time when working on interface features.

Hopefully, you guys are open to suggestions like these. :D

Matt, I assume you know but still… You can also navigate to the form enclosed in the tabpanel by double clicking on the button within that tabpanel in the designer en go back with the ‘Back’ toolbarbutton…

I agree 100% with mattman

Yes, great tip! In fact, we should start a Tips section on this forum for all the little shortcuts you can use (hint, hint)

The history navigation within designer mode is great. I love it. The problem is that it’s not obvious. It’s something you have to figure out or be told about.

Just like being able to use the Alt key and click-dragging while in designer mode to scroll your forms to different locations within them. This feature is genius and I can’t tell you how many years I yearned for it in FileMaker (being an avid Photoshop user I would be working in a FileMaker layout and start using Photoshop shortcuts to no avail).

But this feature is hidden. If I didn’t tell you to hold down the Alt key then click-drag anywhere in your layout you wouldn’t know about it.

I’m just trying to make suggestions that lend to more obvious ease-of-use.
