Sybase Central 10: how do I start Index Consultant?

I was trying to launch Index Consultant in Sybase Central 10: I figured out that now is under Application Profiling, but I cannot start it in any way.

I can have Application Profiling working (with some problems because Sybase Central tries to connect to strange testing environment totally unrelated to the selected db), but the Index Consultant icon is always inactive.

Sybase Central 10.0.2
MacOS X.4.9

If you are looking to tune a single query, you can run the index consultant from the DBISQL tool.
From Sybase Central, if you run the profiler, when you complete your profiling session, you can initiate the index consultant by choosing “Application Profiling > Run index consultant on trace database”. Note, this runs against the tracing database, which you specify when you set up application profiling. It does not run against your production database.

Hope this helps.

If I start the profiling wizard, trying to connect to servoy_repository server (db “test”), I get a “cannot connect” error.
The connect windows shows:
Server name: _sc175472812
Start line (shouldn’t it be empty?): dbeng10 -c 10M -gp4096
database name: utility_db

I absolutely have no idea where those setting come from

When you run the profiler, a new database is created to store your profiling information (so as to minimize the impact that profiling has on your application performance). This is probably where the error is coming from.
What connection parameters are you specifying? It looks like you did not specify a server name for the connection.

If you are interested in profiling, I would suggest you check out the documentation on application profiling and get a feel for how it works. There is also an online webcast which goes through it in detail, including a demo: http://www.ianywhere.com/forms/webcasts … 11207.html

I launch Servoy Developer, so a server called servoy_repository is started.
Then i connect to the db, using that server.
The connection works, but I get the error when I start profiling.

Thanks, Jason: I will
But I want to point out that I’m not particularly interested in profiling: the fact is that now it’s the only way to use Index Consultant (I confess that I prefer the old way, present in version 9, where Index Consultant was a sort of standalone module).

Just to be sure: can you confirm me that this function is working under MacOS X? I’m using a Intel Core Duo Macbook Pro with MacOS X.4.9

Thanks

You can still use the index consultant independantly from DBISQL. You can launch it under the tools menu after you have connected to a database.

Yes, but I have to write queries on my own, instead of capturing them automatically. The cool thing about index consultant was that you simply had to run your Servoy application.

I’m confused. I thought the current releases of Servoy did not work with Sybase 10, and that you had to use Sybase 9 ASA until a new compatible version is released from Servoy.

The last 3.5 releases (only the full install versions) ship with Sybase 10.
