Tool tips are very useful. I would like to request a means to add custom tool tips to static value lists. So when you roll over a selection option in the pick list or drop down, you can display a tool tip for each value.
An example of usage is if you have a value list of codes (SOC codes for example) you could attach, via tool tip, a more lengthy description of what the code stands for. Something like this could be useful in the medical field as well.
Another option could be to specify which column of a table to use for the value list and which column to use for the tool tip.
If this request is not clear, I would be happy to expand the description.

For now, you can do similar to what you want without a tool tip. You can set up a value list to show the value from one field of a table, and yet insert a value into the record from a different field. You can therefore insert a code into a record while the user only sees the description. This requires using tables to store your value lists, but it works!
The main purpose is to be able to have a long description for a value list value, WITHOUT causing the value list width to increase.
I hear what you are saying, but think about how you would handle a value list of say 6 letter codes where the description for each code could be around 75 characters each. Would you want to have a VL that is 75 characters wide when you COULD save the screen realestate and only use 6 characters? I have hit this wall before and compromised in both directions. With tool tips you would have the flexibility to handle it how ever you choose.

In the meanwhile … what about a help button near the 6 characters field that displays (only when the user needs help) a pop-up form with full description of codes (and eventually search/selection/browse/edit of codes and related long description).
Good suggestion. I have done that “work around” in the past (in Work Around Pro). I would just like to be able to avoid “work arounds” when there is a better solution.
