Updating database from external source

The database our servoy interface connects to needs to be regulary updated (daily) from an external source. Typically this will happen when there are no clients connected to the solution.

The tables that will be updated (updates and inserted) have identity columns, that are set to ‘db identity’ in servoy. After inserts, will this lead to the servoy table sequences being out-of-sync? Will we need to do something the equivalent of ‘update all table sequences’ in the servoy admin? Is there any way to do this programatically?

You can not update you sequence programmatically! You would have to do that manually.

Having that said, I would say that you should use db sequences. See another topic with a poll that I started as well (or have a look at the poll on our forum http://forum.it2be.com

And, even when you only have the server running and update your database you would have to make sure that your server becomes in sync with the database.

In short, use either the import method that Servoy provides or use our Data plugin that will soon have a fully scriptable import with or without dialog. But, the plugin also uses on db sequence…

Hope this clears things up for you!
