What do I need on my server to run SHC ?

Hi Kahuna,

Kahuna:
Don’t know about the rest of the developers here but I need a low price solution.

What price range are you thinking of and what do you expect to get for it?

Sorry Robert cant seem to post sensible reply - getting a debug error on the PHP. My comparison would be between a standard managed server and the the Hosted Servoy one - probably 45 Euros a month as against 680 Euros a month with 25 licenses on the go! I am assuming (possibly wrongly) that the hosting license charge is in addition to the Servoy license charge though.

Hi Kahuna,

I think you misread something, do you find this expensive?
Our services start at this:

Servoy Hosting 1

  • Dedicated Servoy Server
  • Full access to Servoy-Admin
  • use of MySQL and/or PostgreSQL included!
  • 1 GB Disk Space
  • 50 GB Data Transfer per month

Setup: 75,- Euro
Monthly: 45,- Euro

Ofcourse this is the hosting platform without the Servoy client license. You can use your own Servoy licenses ofcourse.

We have several customers hosting all over Europe, who are very happy with it.

you can read this all here:

Hope that clears it somehow

Hi Harjo - Iam sure you guys offer a great service but its expensive, or looks it from the outside. It looks from the website that users pay you for every license they use (25 euros a month each - not concurrent users).

Did you mean that that is a rental for the client licences (instead of your host clients supplying their own)?

For example - if I were to use my own Servoy Licenses then I’d get your server service for 75 E set-up and 45 E a month - with no further charges?

If so - I guess you must rent the licenses to your hosting users? - how do you charge then for concurrent users - or is your license fee just a fixed price per seat?

25 euros a month each - not concurrent users

I don’t know where you read that non-concurrent bit from… But I have never heard of Servoy Clients being non-concurrent. Doesn’t make sense to me.

Next to that, I think you try to compare apples and pears. You are now in fact jumping in somewhere in the middle to step out at three quarters…
What do I mean by that: what about TCO? You really need to take all costs into account.

Marcel - here are the costs as shown on the web site:

Setup: 75,- Euro
Monthly: 45,- Euro*
Additional 1GB Backup : 10,- Euro/per month*
Additional Servoy Client Licenses 1-10: 25,- Euro/per month*
Additional Servoy Client Licenses 11+: 20,- Euro/per month*

  • payable upfront per 3 months or upfront for 12 months in which case it you’ll get a discount of 5 %

Run that at 25 licences and its 680 E a month!

It suggests that they (not Servoy) supply the licenses for which they charge 25E a month - says nothing about being concurrent - and if they were concurrent how could they be charged 3 months in advance?

I can see they are attempting to build business on the Servoy server support but in reality - if these aren’t concurrent and if they are in addition to the Servoy license charges (lots of ifs - I am trying to get to the bottom of it) its way more expensive than running a dedicated managed server (including all TCO expectations).

Didn’t say it was a bad thing - just expensive!

No Kahuna, you see it all wrong. (sorry)

If you want to rent your own dedicated server, you have to buy or rent the Servoy licenses also from Servoy!

So in our case, you can rent the Servoy server (inlcuding bandwith, ready installed Servoy, ready installed databases, with ready installed backups) for 45 Euro per month. (no additional fee, what so ever)

Than, if you buy your own Servoy license, let’s say a license for 10, and install it on the server, than you can use our server with 10 concurrent license!

In our case, we rent Servoy licenses, if someone, needs the server for let’s say 3 months. Than it is much cheaper than buying them

so, you don’t HAVE to rent the licenses.

Hope that clears it more.

and if they were concurrent how could they be charged 3 months in advance?

That is simple, you (try to) define how many logins you can have at the same time. When that is 10 you will ask Direct ICT to rent you 10 concurrent users. They will be available all the time. Or, the other approach, you will buy the 10 clients from Servoy and Use the license they supply to you.

Not so difficult and, as you saw, confirmed by HJK

Didn’t say it was a bad thing - just expensive!

Neither did I, I just said you were thinking in the wrong direction.

Thanks Guys - makes sense now - phew - real learning curve - but getting there I think.

Cheers Marcel and HJK
