I have a fresh install of Developer 3.5.5 on MS Windows Vista but from the first moment on I have a dialog ‘Can’t connect to the repository server specified in the application preferences’.
org.apache.commons.dbcp.DbcpException: java.sql.SQLException: JZ006: Caught IOException: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect
Is there something I miss?

A decent operating system . Sometimes it is helpful to not install in the programs dir, but somewhere else. Does that change anything?

A decent operating system .
Not really, I work on OS X
Will follow your suggestion by installing it in (my) user/applications folder.
I will keep you posted on this…

On Vista things seem to get installed in c:\Programs but user specific stuff ends up in a “Virtual Store”. Not every application seems to like that.
