Cannot connect to Oracle from Mac OS X

I am receiving the following error:

java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection

I know the server, SID and username/password is correct. Can anyone tell me why I am getting this error?

Got it - I added @ in front of the IP address and it worked.
