Change Designer Shortcut

When using developer, one is obviously switching often between Designer mode and back, and using a shortcut to do so is great. But the problem with using ?-L or Ctrl-L is that, for a right-handed user, if they have their right hand on the mouse, it’s very difficult to use this shortcut.

Is there anyway to use/have a different shortcut to get in and out of Designer mode?

How about clicking on the Design Icon in the toolbar?

How about not.

Why clicking at all to Design-mode? I love to look at browse-mode. We do it every day!

just kidding. For now, it’s not possible, to assign an other shortcut-key. You could post a feature request in the Servoy Support solution.

Well if your hand is already on the mouse it should take about 20 milliseconds. If you want to file a feature request please file something useful. We try to make Servoy the best dev tool out there and useful input is highly appreciated.

That’s true!

Thanks for the lecture.

I’ll try to add “something more useful” next time.

In GOOD development environments, the application is user-friendly. You would think that a company would want to listen to their user base to improve their product, even for somehting small like customizing short-cut keys, but I guess some things are so set in stone, and some people are so disrespectful that you can’t expect even that much.

Thanks for your help.

If you’d browse a bit more through the forum you’d notice that we listen very carefully to our customers, in the last releases of Servoy over 400 features where added purely based on developer feedback. As the sky is the limit we always ask users to justify why a feature would be useful, that is what I asked from you and you replied with a simple ‘how about not’ If you would have come up with a good reason it would definetely go to the future requests; if you can’t be serious about a feature request we can’t be serious about it.

Right, but I asked about changing a KEYBOARD shortcut, and you told me to use the MOUSE!

That’s simply an unacceptable response.

Why is it unacceptable? You mentioned your hand was on the mouse so I thought it was a great idea.

After much user testing at the world headquarters of Data Mosaic, it is recommended that the left thumb be placed on the command key and the left pinky on the L key with palm facing up.

Unfortunately, in FileMaker this only works when right foot is placed on mouse.

Glad to see that I’m stirring things up.

So… this got me to thinking… what is a keyboard? what is a mouse? Aren’t they really devices that substitute for our voices and finger points? And well… what are our voices and finger points really. Aren’t they ways to communicate what is in our brain?

So I’m thinking it would be great if there were a version of Servoy that just scanned our brains and did what we want. No more keyboard shortcuts. No more computer mice. Just sit there and think… voila… your solution is done.

That would certainly satisfy the requirements stated in this thread. And likely would bring an end to computer generated carpal tunnel syndrome. And think how much smaller and lighter our computers would be.

So, Jan, can you guys whip up some sort of Servoy ↔ brain interface? Does the API support this level of functionality? Will it support multiple languages?

:-)

It exists but you really don’t want us to release it.

Hi David,

It’s obvious from picture number 1 that you posted that you actually have Spiderman on your payroll and you have him web-slingin’ onto a touch screen to move from designer to browse and back - shame on you for exploiting the friendly neighbourhood guy :D

Cheers
Harry :D

Let’ get back on topic please…

rarbuthnot, I suggest that you simply file a feature request here.

We are working out a voting system for our SAN members, in order to get an indication of what requests are most important to the Servoy community.
So if your request comes up in the top 10 there’s a fair chance on quick implementation.

However, to be honest about you request: As much as I agree you do have a point, there are a lot of other things we also want to work on, in order to keep improving Servoy.

We do appreciate each feature request as they are potential improvements to Servoy
but it’s simply undoable to implement them all within a reasonable timespan.

Thanks again for the input.

I connected a second keyboard and trained my dog to hit CTRL+L
