I am very new to Servoy. One day already spent trying to create a table in a database.
I installed Servoy using the default options - version 6.1. I reinstalled as well. PS I am an ex Foxpro programmer so I am used to inbuilt database and table access.
I try to create a database and I get the error message : “cannot create database null”. I left clicked on Database Servers, then selected Create database to create this error.
I have tried to enable one of the sample databases but the Icon turns to grey (as if it is not connected). Also I cannot create a table or see existing tables.
Welcome to Servoy! I am a Visual FoxPro programmer as well and there are many more… What kind of database do you want to create? PostgreSQL or VFP? You can connect to an existing database or create a new connection. Did you install Servoy 6.1 with the option that includes PostgreSQL?
Hi Thanks for replying to me. I want to create a PostgreSQL database. I did install the basic postgresql option when I installed. I installed version 6.1. I want to create a new connection to a new database.
I try to create a database and I get the error message : “cannot create database null”. I left clicked on Database Servers, then selected Create database to create this error.
I have tried to enable one of the sample databases but the Icon turns to grey (as if it is not connected). Also I cannot create a table or see existing tables of sample daabase servers.
There must be something wrong with the PostgreSQL part of your Servoy installation. Did you get any errors during installation? You say you left clicked Database Servers but I guess you mean you right-clicked the ‘Database Servers’ node, selected ‘Create new database’ and selected the option ‘Create new PostgreSQL database’?
Perhaps it’s best to completely remove the Servoy installation and any PostgreSQL remainders and reinstall Servoy paying close attention to any errors. If you already did that then perhaps you can ask Robert (ROCLASI) to help you check the state of your PostgreSQL instance. He’s the expert on that.
I appreciate your offer of help! I have Windows 7 Dell portable. It came with Vista but I upgraded to Windows 7. I am not aware of any strange things about my portable. I only have this computer at the moment. I did disable AVG (antivirus, firewall) but that made no difference. I was unable to uninstall Postgresql like any other program because it doesnt seem to be in the registry. I don’t have Team Viewer. I did download postegre admin. I was able to create a database but I think it still would not connect as I was unable to create any tables.
If I try to create a database from Servoy it says → “cannot create database null”. I clicked on Database Servers, then selected Create database to create this error.
If i try to connect to say database “example” by opening a server and saving its connection details to check connection I get → Connection refused.Check that hostname and port are correct and the postmaster is accepting TCP/IP connections. I did not change any of the details like port, hostname etc…
I have never seen from the “data servers” right click menu option create a table. None of the links have ever gone green - they have always stayed grey…
I did not see any errors when PostgreSQL installed…
Ok, take a look at http://www.teamviewer.com if you want. Here you can download TeamViewer for free. TeamViewer will show a Partner-id and password which you can send to me by mail or private message on the forum. Afterwards you can simply uninstall TeamViewer or generate another ID and password. I get the feeling that maybe you are trying to do more than is necessary to get it to work? My email is omar@intrasoft.nl.
On win 7 check firewall settings (or an whatever application it is that you have that provides anti-virus etc) for the port settings. The Port for Postgres installation from Servoy is the default of 5432 - this must be allowed to be opened.
Using the Postgres Admin tool what are the settings for the installation?
I hope this may overcome your install issue or be a step along the way…
