New Install of Servoy Developer Never Loads CRM Demo

Running Mac OS X 10.4.1 & Servoy Developer
Version R2 2.2rc8-build 326
Java version 1.4.2-50 (Mac OS X)

Installed Servoy & Sybase SQLAnywhere9 on a new machine. Started Servoy, inputed license. Restarted and selected CRM demo and I get a spinning Servoy Icon. Doesn’t ever load CRM demo. Can’t quit Servoy, close solution. To stop have to force quite. Can’t figure out what is wrong. Any suggestions. I have deleted Servoy and reinstalled with the same result.

Hi Scott,

If Servoy operates successfully in everything other than loading CRM then…

Have you checked the database connections in the preference panes to see that the servers exist to support the CRM demo ?

Have you tried deleting the CRM solution from the repository and then import the solution again from the solutions/examples folder in the Servoy Application folder ?

Cheers
Harry

Hi Harry,

Thanks. I am new to Servoy. I see the CRM database in the preference panes. So I followed your advice and deleted it and tried to import from the examples folder. Would not do it. Something is wrong. I think I will reinstall again (3rd time) and see if I get the same result. This is supposed to be as easy as filemaker right?

Hi Scott,

Stick with it, it really is worth the effort !

Relatively speaking there are very very few install errors and I am sorry to say that you are one of the few :-(

When you open up Servoy and you get the ‘open solution’ dialogue - hit cancel and see if you can create a new form and base it on the ‘example_data’ server connection.

See if Servoy allows you to interact normally with this data.

Check on your installed Java version as this has sometimes created operating conflicts.

There will always be someone willing to advise you on this list and in times of extreme frustration the Servoy staff will personally assist wherever possible.

Cheers

Harry

Hi Scott – You say you are using 10.4.1. Unless you are lucky enough to be using a spanking-new Mac, it seems like this must be a recently-upgraded computer.

We had a similar problem here on a Mac upgraded to Tiger. We had run disk utilities prior to the upgrade, and it was a nice, clean install. After two days struggling with not being able to connect to any solution, we finally did two things:

  1. Trashed everything that had the word “Servoy” in its filename anywhere on the computer. NOTE: This step may not have been necessary, you might want to proceed directly to Step 2.

  2. Started up off of the Tiger CD and fixed permissions using Disk Utility on the CD. (I’ve heard this fixes problems that cannot be fixed when the HD is the start-up drive.)

  3. Reinstalled Servoy. (Of course, not necessary if you skipped Step 1.)

No problems since.

So. Have you fixed permissions after the upgrade?
