New Servers and Upgrading to v.3

Hi

some questions on version 3. and upgrades. I have just bought a new client license (v3.0). Will i have to use the new servoy installer (3.0) for these clients from now on? Will the 2.25 installer work with these clients?

I have been purchasing the maintenance contract on all my 2.25 clients to upgrade to 3.0. How do i upgrade these?

What is the recommended procedure for upgrading developer? The auto update feature in developer doesn’t upgrade to 3.0. I can’t seem to find this info in the forum.

How do i upgrade the existing servers i have already deployed for my solutions.

Hi Rodney,

My guess is they will work with 2.2.5.

Simply upgrade the server. All clients that connect to the server after that will be upgraded automatically.
Servoy equals zero deployment…remember :D

2.2.5 won’t auto-update to 3.0. You need to use the installer.

You can upgrade existing servers. Install 3.0 in a separate directory and point it to the 2.2.5 repository. When you launch 3.0 for the first time it will update the repository so make sure you backup your repository database first.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Robert for your help, much appreciated.

OK, can i confirm.

  1. Install Servoy installer 3.0 to a new directory
  2. Point it to the 2.25 repository (back it up first)
  3. This will automatically update the repository, all solutions, the app server, and clients?

What happens to Servoy 2.25? developer and app server?

Sorry, but i just want to be safe! (i should have gone to Boston!!)

The app server is in the installer, including the clients. The client users will get the new client components the next time they connect to the server.
Just make sure you setup all you data sources again and your serials. I guess you could use your old servoy.properties file for this but I haven’t tried that.

You can eventually remove your 2.2.5 directory. Then again if you use the iAnywhere DB this lives in that directory as well. And 3.0 will install a new Sybase db as well so keep track on what is running and what not.
So I guess you better quit Servoy 2.2.5 and the dbsrv9 process before installing 3.0 and then move your db file (with log file) to the 3.0 directory and launch Servoy 3.0.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Thanks again Robert, will try it first on my laptop and see how i go.
