I’ve created a new online resource called the Servoy Beginner’s Handbook, and I have posted it on my website http://www.mcgilly.com.
The Servoy Beginner’s Handbook is a one-stop, all-in-one document for beginning Servoy developers that discusses topics not fully covered in the Servoy guides. It contains lots of how-to’s, tips & techniques, gotcha’s, etc. that will hopefully spare newbies a lot of the hunting and pecking I had to do on the forum to get up to speed with Servoy. It’s been reviewed by a couple long-time Servoy developers and they all learned a thing or two by reading it, so it’s worth looking at even if you’re not a complete newbie.
The document is over 100 pages long, complete with a hyperlinked table of contents, diagrams and internal links. I plan to continue adding to it as I think of more relevant topics so check back often! And of course, I welcome your feedback.
What a great piece of work and a credit to you!! It will really speed up the process of learning for anyone new to Servoy and there certainly are a few gems that even the most experienced will benefit from being reminded of!!
(Apologies for reposting this announcement - the thread I originally posted this to was accidentally deleted by the moderator)
I have updated the Servoy Beginner’s Handbook to reflect changes in v4.x, and I’ve also added some new sections on Eclipse, Error Handling, Date Manipulation and Stored Calcs. Edition 1.5.1 of the handbook now weighs in at 155 pages. As always you can preview the handbook for free (table of contents + first 40 pages) or purchase the entire document for $49 from my website. Purchase entitles you to free updates for one year. You can view some reader’s comments here.
I have updated the Servoy Beginner’s Handbook with some new sections on:
how to use getRecord() to make code more readable, manageable and efficient
how to interpret the Performance Data in the Admin Console to monitor and improve performance
new Performance Tips on how to (and how NOT to) use related foundsets and aggregations
using the Eclipse Navigator view to jump around quickly among multiple solutions you are working on
Edition 1.5.2 contains 164 pages of essential information for Servoy Developers. You can preview the new edition for free or purchase the entire handbook for $49 from my website. Purchase entitles you to free updates for one year. You can view some reader’s comments here.
I bought your beginner’s guide when I first got into Servoy and it saved me a lot of consternation! It clearly explains the ins and outs of Servoy without being too simplistic for seasoned developers from other platforms while at the same time allowing those with less development experience to quickly learn how to become productive in Servoy.
Servoy can seem a little challenging to those who have not used it before and your guide is a great resource to help make things clear and logical.
I thoroughly recommend it to anyone in the early stages of learning Servoy.
