After installing java 1.4.2 (i think), Servoy client is not asking me (if you start client for second time) to place a shortcut on the desktop anymore! How can I fix this?
I even can’t find the servoy client in the webstart anymore!

Hi HJK,
I think you can find the servoy client in downloaded applications tab in web start. just delete it and start the client from the browser again…
It asks to put the shortcut on desktop on its second attempt(you can change this to first attempt too).
It worked for me on Windows 2000 Adv Server.
Yes I know! before installing java 1.4.2. this worked for me too. After installing java 1.4.2 Servoy Client is not there, under downloadable applications. I did select the option, to put a icon on the desktop, but this does not help.
Are you using 1.4.2 too?
yep HJK,
I am using JAVA 1.4.2 b28… its working fine on all our machines also… which are running win2K, and XP…
I don’t get it! I have tried this on several machines, all different, using WinXP, and all have the same problem!
It is an option under java web start, checkout:
javawebstart program ; File->preferences->second tab called ‘shortcuts’
Yes I know,
I have set the function: Always integrate java-applictions into desktop.
but if I start the client, the shortcut is not placed on the desktop!
also the dowloadable applications is empty!.
It looks like the client is not interacting with java webstart.
the rest is working fine!
No problems for me, just tested with http://demo.servoy.com:8080
I don’t get it. I even tried a complete different machine: win98 with java 1.4.1 wit the url: http://demo.servoy.com:8080 and this machine has the same problems!
I have been trying four hours now and I don’t get it fixed
I will try a complete de-install
I pulling my hair out! (whatM-4s left of it!
)
I did a complete de-install on my win98 machine, even checked afterwards, if there where any files left. Than I did an install of the java-plugin via the check-function in Servoy-server. (java 1.4.2)
Than started the demo-client: http://demo.servoy.com:8080
after quiting the client, the Servoy client does not show up in the JavaWebstart! No shortcut’s are made on the desktop the second time!
I did a complete de-install on a totaly different machine: win2000,
and installed: j2sdk-1_4_2-windows-i586.exe
after starting up the demo-client en quiting it, the client is not show up in de JavaWebstart. No shortcut’s are made on the desktop the second time!
On both machine de-installed java-completly and installed java 1.4.1_03.
The problem stays the same!
Are you guys shure it has nothing to do with Servoy Server?
Beats me!
Hi HJK,
I also tryed to reproduce it on a different machine… but can’t… for me every thing is fine…
First I installed Java and then servoy…[though it is a crap machine(Pentium II with 256ram) servoy works fine]…
Try downloading one of the java webstart default applications like Military game, notepad, or drawing or some thing… then see if they are comming out or not.

It looks like you have multiple java’s on your machine. Try this: uninstall ALL java’s on your machine, doublecheck they are really gone in your registry and delete any files they leave on your system. In your registry you can see where you have java’s installed. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-SOFTWARE-Javasoft-Java Runtime environment. Make sure they are all gone and those directories are empty. Then install a fresh java 1.4.2 and everything will be fine.
Sorry Jan, I did everything you suggested, (3 times over!!! )also deleted all registry-keys and directory’s. but it did not help!
I have to proof myself! See picture! I even tried this one on my home PC, so another different computer! I have this problem on every computer so far (5 computers) so I can’t believe I am the only one!
Sorry, I can’t reproduce the problem either.
Mine works just fine - and I’ve downloaded about 7 different clients from different machines (local and internet and the demo.servoy.com site).

Hi Bob, do you use java 1.4.2?
Have you deleted, the client in the Java-webstart?
And is it coming back, whan you launch a new one?
I have doublechecked the java-issue:
Iam not using multiple java runtimes:
I am now absolutly sure, that it has nothing to do with java, but everything with Servoy!
I did the following test:
On my laptop I did a complete de-install of 1.2RC5 and I installed 1.1(final)
from my other machine I opened the client, and the client is showing up in the java-webstart!! Nice! After that I deleted the program in the java-webstart.
I did a complete de-install of 1.1(final) and re-installed a fresh install of 1.2RC5
from my other machine I opened the client, and the client is NOT showing up in the java-webstart.

Yep - using 1.4.2 and did delete the client via the Java-webstart control panel - and it came back just fine.
SORRY!

I hope someone of the dev team would take a look at this.
It’s drive me nuts!
I have tried the same on my home-pc. If I load client with servoy 1.1 final everything is working fine. If I load a client with servoy 1.2rc5 the client does not show up in javawebstart (so it wont make a shortcut on the desktop! AARRGGG!!!)
I tried the application that are in Javawebstart: like Notepad or some militarygame. They just work fine ,and they show up as a downloadable program!. Servoy 1.2RC5 is’nt!
Do you use: 1.2RC5 ??
which OS-server? which OS clients?
Interestingly enough on my machine it does show up in the control panel but does not ask to create a shortcut at second launch.
You can also create a shortcut to your solution by placing a shortcut on your desktop to:
http://demo.servoy.com:8080/servoy-clie … lution=crm
you can even customize the icon!
