Servoy Runtime

Is there anybody able to teach me where I can find complete documentation for using Servoy Runtime (…and make it work). I think I have done what I’m asked to do, but get a message that tells me the it cannot connect to the db.
Thanks for your help.

Vincent, good question but:

I think I have done what I’m asked to do, but get a message that tells me the it cannot connect to the db.

what is it that you have done and what exactly does the message look like?

Thanks for your advice. I have put the db I selected (example) in the data base file but it still doesn’t work. I tried to test the result with a pen drive instead of a CD, can that be the problem?
Actually it works perfectly on my PC where I have Servoy, but not on other PCs that don’t have it.
Vincent

Is there any error message?

Simply saying ‘it does not work’ is like stating my car does not drive, but it can be fuel, a flat tire or a milling parts of the engine etc that makes that you can’t drive.
Since we are all on a distance you need to give more info…

No, there isn’t anything that makes me think I made mistakes. It tells me that:

The build was succesful

but it doesn’t work on a PC that doesn’t have Servoy
Thanks again
Vincent

but it doesn’t work on a PC that doesn’t have Servoy

So, is java on the other machines available (and what version)?
Is servoy running when you start the runtime?
Have you copied the database when it was not running/connected?

Marcel:

So, is java on the other machines available (and what version)?
Yes, there is an automatic installation file (on the REDME file), and I also tried the newest version.

Is servoy running when you start the runtime?
No. I understood that the runtime version was a stand alone that doesn’t need Servoy installed on the PCs that is running the runtime. Isn’t this correct?

Have you copied the database when it was not running/connected?
Yes I did. After compilation I copied manually the two DB files where my data are saved (expample.db) into the (empty) database file.

Thanks again.
Vincent

OK

No. I understood that the runtime version was a stand alone that doesn’t need Servoy installed on the PCs that is running the runtime. Isn’t this correct?

No it should not be running but when it runs my thinking was that it might connect to the running db’s.

Yes I did. After compilation I copied manually the two DB files where my data are saved (expample.db) into the (empty) database file.

Are you saying you create new databases?
If so, what happens when you simply copy the db’s, after stopping them first, to exclude that it goes wrong there…

Otherwise I can only advise you to contact servoy directly for some support.

Marcel:

Are you saying you create new databases?

No, I just copy the to DB (EXAMPLE.DB & EXAMPLE TXTX) files to the
DATABASE file of run time.

Thank you so much for your advice and help, will contact SERVOY.
Vincent

No, I just copy the to DB (EXAMPLE.DB & EXAMPLE TXTX) files to the
DATABASE file of run time.

But you also need the repository I guess…

runtime builder bundles the required repository tables in the user database, so only one database file is needed.

The question is what do you deploy on other PCs? the entire builder output directory?

Hi to all:
this is what I get:

beans (folder)
drivers (folder)
database (empty folder where I copy the EXAMPLE.DB and EXAMPLE.TXT)
lafs (folder)
lib (folder)
plugins (folder)
runtime:db (folder)

readme htlm file
servoy_runtime JAR exe file

Is it what it should be?
Tomorrow I was supposed to bring to a meeting the first CD copy of this product, as it was purchased for this.
Thanks again for your help.
Vincent

after making sure the all these files a present on another PC and when starting the exe what message follows?, does give an error dialog?

Thank you all,
mistery and miracles of informatics. Previously I tried to run my application on different machines with the rsults that made me write to you all.
After your last request to control the message I get when trying to run it, I went around in my department to find a machine that didn’t have Java. I did what I was supposed to do (install Java and run the runtime apllication) and now it runs on any machine i try!
Thank you very much for your help.
Vincent

Congratulations but you leave me behind with a big questionmark in my mind.

Are you saying that this question:

So, is java on the other machines available (and what version)?
Yes, there is an automatic installation file (on the REDME file), and I also tried the newest version.

Should have been answered with No?
