sorry, couldn’t resist that subject line.
I have found the Servoy Guyz to be quite forthcoming when it comes to Servoy futures.
I refer to the small things, like clearly stating on the main forum what fix or feature will be added (with clear commitment to a particular version some times, or at the least with the candid statement “we will be fixing/adding that, but can’t say right now in which release”).
And I refer to the respect given us developers, with such gestures as even having agreed to establish this topic on the SAN forum.
And I refer to the big things, like being told at the SAN meeting in Phoenix in '03 about the new partnership with Sybase, about the possibilities this introduced for offline databasing, and even an expected timeframe for the release that would include that capability. Or, such as the news shared by Bob during the recent SAN webinar about the upcoming Servoy Web Publisher that is coming out, bringing Servoy solutions pretty much directly to the Web browser.
PLEASE REMEMBER, FOLKS, THAT THE N.D.A. IN OUR SAN AGREEMENT HOLDS FORTH RIGHT HERE ON THIS FORUM. That said, we might want to bat around some ideas on how upcoming features might enhance our solutions, grow our businesses, and expand the Servoy customer base.
I know I’m real excited about the Web Publisher. I figure it’ll be “soon-ish” because it is publicly listed as a ServoyWorld session. If we get any chance at seeing advance copies, we definitely have the edge in that we can start our early business planning based upon what we see in the new feature.
So, never mind Spill The Beans, “How about dem beans?” As a back-woods uh-MER-ican might say. (Not that there are a whole lot of trees in my own “neck of the woods”!)

Couldn’t agree more !
It is so refreshing to be in an environment where the Servoy team are so open with the way that they deal with bugs and feature requests and are also candid when speaking of their product dev cycle.
So, currently we have amongst many other things :
How do we get this particular ‘futures’ ball rolling ?
Are we going to restate feature requests made in the other forum or are we going to be made privy to outlines on the next major Servoy revision ?
Certainly by getting an outline of the functionality of the next major rev we can focus a little on those included functional elements and try to assimilate them into our own development futures and give concise feedback.
That’s just one thought which may start a longer thread.
Confucious, he say, the longest journey begins with the first step !
Heck, it’s late evening and I may have misquoted - but you get the gist ?
Cheers
Harry
Fully endorse the comments on the open and responsive environment that the Servoy team have fostered. Fancy having a developer list where bugs are acknowledged openly - it’ll never catch on
There was a suggestion - I think from Jan - that SAN members could vote on new features. Everyone contributes to a wishlist with their own favourite ‘must-haves’ then we each have five votes so that the Dev team get a better idea of what is required. Naturally, the result would have to be factored for commercial issues - ie which feature brings the greatest number of licences - but it could be a useful excercise.
This new SAN area of the Forum is the ideal place.

We’re working on the voting app and preparing a list of what’s going to be in .next. The key features: direct to browser, multi dev have already been mentioned various times. Some other major changes will be shared as they get more final. Meanwhile: don’t forget to continue developing great apps with Servoy!
I can’t wait.
The ‘direct to browser’ functionality is exciting to say the least.
The aniticipation is painful.
Having worked within Instant Web Publishing limits on several projects, I see a rising sun on the horizon.

BRING SUNGLASSES!
Now Bob, we know each other well enough and I know that you meant :

I wish I could be there; but I will raise my beer glasses from afar.
I imagine that the future stuff from the conference will be published to the web (instantly).

Ah, so can we get a hint of the new technologies, Web Direct, etc.?
