starting client kills network connection

I’ve had this problem on a few different computers now. When I try to start the client, the network connection on the computer stops working for everything. And after a while the client says “can’t register client”. This happens right after selecting the solution to open. Has anyone else ever run into this? I have the client working fine on 2 computers. And I have this problem on 2 other ones.

What do you see in the log of webstart when you open such client?

What kind of hardware/software are you using?

It is very strange that a (java)application can kill youre network.

All machines are running windows 2000. The two that don’t work both have ASUS boards, not sure which ones. AMD processors. I’m currently using the beta version of the server. After trying to start the client, I can’t access the network. But restarting the computer always makes it work again.

Here is the log output from a computer that doesn’t work.

Is there any other information that may help?

Hmm, the logfiles don’t differ much apart from the fact that you are running two different versions of webstart.

Are you sure there is nothing wrong with the pc/hardware. what happens when you switch the boards?

I upgraded to the newest JRE version 1.4.2_05. It didn’t fix the problem. Could this problem possible be caused by using the beta version of the server?

I can’t see any reason why but then again. I am not a servoy guy and therefor not the righ person to answer this…

I have a similar problem with my laptop in wifi connection… tried everything!!!.. new/beta/old drivers…Windows XP pro, COMPAQ Centrino NX7000, Realtek RTL8139 NIC, Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100C.
Same problem with other similar laptop. Tried on different networks and Servoy Servers. The only way to have it working WiFi is to use an external PCMCIA WIFI CARD!!! Servoy Dev Dream Team spend a lot of time on my problem without detecting anything strange… network connection for the laptop simply stop working when connection to Servoy server!!!

the last reply gave me an idea about what may be causing the problem. The two computers that the client does not work on both have the same network card. The netgear GA302T Gigabit. They are the only two computers with that card, and the only two that do not work. I’m going to try some driver upgrades, and putting different cards in, but first I have to get the server working again.
Would the client not working with certain NICs be a bug in servoy, or a bug in the JRE?

Just an update to let you know that I replaced network cards in both computers an now servoy works on both of them. So it was the Netgear GA302T card that was causing the problem.

Well, good to hear it works now, sad to know it was the card…

it can’t be a bug of servoy. Because we just use the socket system of java. So then it can only be 2 things

java implementation or the drivers of netgear.

because java is working on almost all the cards i know it almost has to be a a netgear driver problem. But maybe java is doing some lowlevel stuf that isn’t completly the spec and that 99% of the cards don’t have any problem with..

If you can file a bug report to both parties.

An update to my problem…
HP finally released (dec. 2004) an updated driver for the intel adapter and now my compaq nx7000 laptop connects ok to Servoy client via wifi !!!
