Hi folks –
Speaking for myself I know nothing about Linux and wish to start learning as soon as possible. In considering the best way to deliver an application to a very small business, or to a workgroup in a situation where the application server will live outside the corporate data center, I do think that simply adding the cost of a cheap headless Linux box to the cost of the project, walking in with the solution pre-installed on this box, and plugging it into the network is likely the cheapest and easiest way to go.
So I’m posting the announcement I received for this webinar here, in case others would like to start familiarizing themselves with the possiblities of Linux.

Linux has a solid reputation for delivering a highly reliable, flexible and secure platform with a low cost of ownership. SQL Anywhere is a high-performance, embeddable database designed specifically for environments that lack continuous IT support enterprise-level hardware or security. This makes Linux and SQL Anywhere an ideal combination for small business and remote office solutions that require enterprise-caliber performance, but run in environments that lack the typical resources found in enterprise-class data centers.
Please join us on September 14, from 2-3 pm ET for a developer-focused Webcast featuring a presentation from iAnywhere partner, Security Applications, Inc. The session will explore how the complementary features of SQL Anywhere and Linuxincluding low cost of ownership, reliability, and flexibilityprovide a high-performance, data-driven framework for applications that need to operate without continuous IT support or specialized hardware. Topics that will be covered include:
- The challenges of deploying applications outside the data center
- The complementary features set of SQL Anywhere and Linux
- A case study on how Security Applications, Inc. developed robust physical security products using SQL Anywhere on the Linux platform
The speakers for this presentation will be Chris Gruber, Product Manager at iAnywhere, and Bert Wheeler, Engineering Manager at Security Applications, Inc.
As always, SQL Anywhere experts will answer your questions throughout the Webcast using the online chat, and there will be a live Q&A after the presentation.
There is no cost to attend this one-hour Webcast, but registration is required. Register online at http://crm.sybase.com/sybase/www/iAS/linux_webcast.jsp, or call 1-800-801-2069.
