Actually for you Mac guys I’d actually be careful about installing this. I haven’t seen any bugs yet in Servoy but there are some major issues with Aqua Data Studio having to do with how it integrates with the OS. I’m not savvy enough to know yet whether Servoy’s architecture is fundamentally so different that it won’t be affected by what I am presuming is an Apple/Java bug but just want to give everyone a head’s up in case it might affect Servoy too.
Oh boy! Not another buggy Apple JRE again
I like OS X, it is a great OS, but if only the Java implementation wasn’t such a crap!
John can you share a bit more details on exactly what OS integration is not working anymore (in Aqua Data Studio)?
I installed the update and ran a few tests and don’t find any issues with Servoy. (And I love the fact that Apple fixed the buttons again).
You can read here what aquafold (in the person of John LH) says about this and the response of Apple (see thread)

Hope this helps.
Robert’s URL basically sums it up. As I mentioned I haven’t seen in any way that that impacts Servoy at all yet and indeed only noticed that it fixed the stupid half-of-the-password-disappearing-on-the-login issue. So just wanted to let everyone know that on another Java app there were definitely issues. Aqua Data Studio have already done something to fix that issue so ADS now seems to work fine (their support/reaction-time is Servoy-level!).
New Java Update for Mac seems to have broken Java Web Start for two Leopard iMacs here. First one called in to report it, then I reproduced it on a dev workstation exactly like the enduser. Servoy client now opens in TextEdit, from either Firefox or Safari, no matter what I do to the browser’s application preferences. They are set to open jnlp via Java Web Start. They open in Text Edit.
Help?
Hi Ellen,
What messages are you getting in the console when you try to launch Servoy? Anything? Probably first thing I’d try would be to reinstall the update and restart the machine.
Hi Ellen,
I don’t see what you are seeing but as a quick fix you can download and install the free prefpane RCDefaultApp and change the MIME Type application/x-java-jnlp-file to use the default app /System/Library/CoreServices/Java Web Start.app
Hope this helps.
I noticed the same behaviour.
Here my vmware xp is started up.
Nice tip robert! I have it installed but did not think of adding this one yet.
Another option is to use terminal and type: javaws servoy_client.jnlp
We’ve got Parallels up for the enduser, and I can’t test your theories for now – an attempt to remove the java update resulted in a crashing Finder here. Argh. Anyone else able to see if those would work? My enduser workstation is not in this building/vicinity and I’m not ready to try out Terminal with him over the phone. BTW Thanks everyone…
Hi Marcel,
IT2Be:

Thanks!
But actually I didn’t add it myself. It was already there for me so it seems something (the update?) removed it for you.
(and I have also VMware with XP installed)

Even stranger.
But then again, I have been facing a lot of strange issues since I had to roll back my installation of Snow Leopard that I installed on my development machine when feeling terribly optimistic

Famous last words ?
Someone on the Apple java-dev list responded to a similar outcry about this issue.
This is what he said:
The update deletes the old Java Web Start app located here:
/Applications/Utilities/Java/Java Web Start
and creates a new Java Web Start app located here:
/System/Library/CoreServices/Java Web Start
and the update does not appear to rebuild the launch services database properly (in some cases).
If you open /System/Library/CoreServices in the finder any applications in CoreServices which are not registered in thelaunch services database will be added.
After doing this jnlps worked again from Safari, FireFox, and the Finder.
So no need to install any prefpanes like I suggested before, just open that directory in the finder and things should be registered correctly.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Robert! I’ll try this on Monday on the iMacs. Just open Core Services and that fixes it? Open Java Web Start?

So just open that directory in the finder and everything in there gets registered properly.
Thanks so much!
